Modern Smile Dental is your partner for oral health. We offer comprehensive general and preventative dentistry treatments. It is very important to have good oral hygiene habits not just for the great smile you will have, but to help maintain your entire health. Having healthy teeth will help you speak and eat properly. Infections and bacteria on your teeth and gums can cause illness other then tooth decay. We recommend brushing and flossing regularly along with regular dental check-ups. You deserve to be in charge of your own dental health, and with education regarding all your treatment options, you’ll be confident in choosing the right procedures for your specific goals and needs. Comprehensive dental care begins with preventive cleanings and checkups and doesn’t end until you are completely satisfied with your smile.

We recommend a dental cleaning (prophylaxis) every six months to remove dental plaque and stains you are unable to remove yourself, as well as to check for signs of tooth decay. Considering that oral health is linked to overall health, preventive dentistry is important to your overall well being.

Dental Bonding  is a procedure in which tooth-colored material is used to close gaps or change tooth color.

What conditions are best suited to dental bonding?

  • Repairing chipped or cracked teeth
  • Improving the appearance of discolored teeth
  • To close spaces between teeth
  • Making teeth look longer
  • Changing the shape of teeth

Cosmetic Contouring and reshaping is a procedure that straightens crooked, chipped, cracked or overlapping teeth.

A chip in a front tooth, some worn edges, or shallow pits or grooves in the tooth enamel are all minor issues, but they do reveal an imperfect smile. If you have one or more of these smile defects they can all be repaired using a procedure known as tooth contouring and reshaping.

After contouring, the teeth are more uniform in shape and size making them appear less crowded and eye-catching imperfections are gone. The length of the procedure is dependent on the amount of changes that are being made to the teeth, but can run from under 30 minutes to over an hour.

The ideal candidate will have minor imperfections in their teeth such as small chips, minor unevenness, slight overlaps, shallowly pitted surfaces, or worn biting areas in their teeth. Other indications for the procedure are one or more teeth out of proportion in size to the rest of the set, such as large, pointy canine teeth. Note that reshaping can only occur on healthy teeth, so x-rays are often taken before the procedure is done to check for problems.

Cosmetic fillings are composite fillings made of a mixture of glass or quartz filler in a resin medium that produces a tooth-colored filling that is nearly invisible in your mouth. Cosmetic fillings are the  alternative to traditional amalgam fillings, and are used to replace areas of decay in a tooth. Cosmetic fillings bond very tightly to your existing teeth and work extremely well for small cavities. There is obviously no danger of metal-sensitivity.

The traditional older style “Amalgam” fillings are much darker than natural tooth structure, causing a sharp contrast with the color of your natural teeth. This is sometimes referred to as the “metal-mouth” look. Amalgams can corrode and leak over time, potentially staining teeth. Additionally, many are now concerned over the health consequences of mercury content in amalgams.

Amalgam fillings can fracture and crumble at the edges, and cause teeth to fracture due to the expansion/contraction of the metals in the filling. Many times during removal of an old amalgam filling, there is a chance there has been recurrent decay under the filling. This is due to the microscopic leakage that occurs along the edges of the filling. We recommend old amalgam fillings be removed when they are discovered to have cracks, leakage or decay.

 The benefits of composite fillings:

  1. Aesthetics — the shade/color of the composite fillings can be closely matched to the color of existing teeth. Composites are particularly well suited for use in front teeth or visible parts of teeth.
  2. Bonding to tooth structure — composite fillings actually chemically bond to tooth structure, providing further support.
  3. Versatility — in addition to use as a filling material for decay, composite fillings can also be used to repair chipped, broken, or worn teeth.
  4. Tooth-sparing preparation — sometimes less tooth structure needs to be removed compared with amalgam fillings when removing decay and preparing for the filling.
  5. Our composite fillings are all BPA free.

Modern Smile Dental performs “Safe Mercury Removal” based on all guidelines from International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT). Dr. Janbakhsh is a member of this organization.

Dental Bridges are used to create a “bridge” for a gap that happens when there are missing tooth/teeth. Generally, a dental bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap (missing tooth or teeth) that is used as the anchoring method to hold the new false tooth/teeth that fill in the gap.

Dental Bridges are used to:

  • Restore the ability to properly chew and speak
  • Maintain the shape of your face
  • Distribute the pressure in your bite properly
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
  • Restore your smile

At Modern Smile we can talk with you about the different types of dental bridges that are available and which type best fits into your budget. Call us today for a consultation.

Dental Crown is a type of restoration that fully cups over that portion of a tooth or dental implant that lies at and above the gum line. Once the crown is permanently cemented in place, it becomes the tooth’s new outer surface. This new crown functions exactly like your natural tooth.

Dental crowns are used to repair and strengthen damaged teeth or may be used to improve the appearance of teeth including: color, shape and in some cases for alignment.

Modern Smile Dental offers non-metal ceramic/zirconia crowns in cases that is indicated.

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Dental implants look and feel like your own teeth; they are designed to fuse with bone to become permanent. Implants become part of you, eliminating the discomfort of removable dentures and that can cause speech problems. Your dental implants functions like your own teeth, allowing you to eat your favorite foods with confidence and without pain.

Implants are very durable and will last a lifetime with good care. We provide non-metal (zirconium) implants as well as traditional implants. Imagine your smile returned healthy and lasting.

Are Dental Implants right for you?

In most cases, anyone healthy enough to undergo a routine dental extraction or oral surgery can be considered for a dental implant. Patients should have healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. They also must be committed to good oral hygiene and regular dental visits.

Dentures are used as a replacement for missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. There are two types of dentures, partial and complete. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

Each set of dentures that is created is custom-made and handcrafted for you and you only. There are many reasons for losing a tooth/teeth, but there is no reason for you to lose your quality of life as a result of this. Speaking or eating difficulties that once caused great embarrassment when laughing or smiling are now a thing of the past. There are now a variety of dentures and denture materials that are custom designed to suit your face and smile. There are soft dentures, flexible, non-metal and cosmetic dentures. The new dentures do not resemble false teeth of the past.

At Modern Smile Dental we are happy to consult with you about your current dentures for replacement or to help you decide if dentrues is the right choice for your dental health.

Whitening and Bleaching – As the term implies, whitening and bleaching, a rapidly increasing procedure, are used to make teeth whiter. We use laser whitening system which results in much less tooth sensitivity than other whitening methodologies.

Cosmetic Veneers are a procedure in which ultra-thin coatings are placed over the front teeth. Veneers can change the color or shape of your teeth. For example, veneers have been used to correct unevenly spaced, crooked, chipped, oddly shaped or discolored teeth.

Dental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement.

Veneers can be used to repair:

    • Discolored teeth — either because of root canal treatment; stains from tetracycline or other drugs, excessive fluoride or other causes; or the presence of large resin fillings that have discolored the tooth
    • Worn down teeth
    • Chipped and broken teeth
    • Misaligned and uneven, or irregularly shaped teeth
    • Gaps between teeth (to close the space between these teeth)

Invisalign has helped over 1.7 million people have the beautiful smile they always wanted. If you’re ready for a smile that transforms your appearance, Invisalign is your answer. Although there are many choices out there, no other treatment works as comfortably as Invisalign®. Invisalign is also the best choice for people that have metal sensitivity.

Invisalign® treatments consist of a series of nearly invisible, removable aligners that you change every two weeks for the next set of aligners. As you replace each aligner, your teeth will move – little by little, week by week – until they have straightened to the final position prescribed by your dental practitioner. Each aligner is individually manufactured for your teeth, and your teeth only.

Not only are the aligners invisible, they are removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are no problem. They are also comfortable, with no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. And no metal and wires usually means you spend less time in your doctor’s office getting adjustments. Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start, so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.
